Clark High School were recognized as Pete Conrad Scholars, the top award in The Conrad Challenge, a multi-phase STEM and entrepreneurship competition inspired by the legacy of Apollo 12 astronaut Pete Conrad. Sometimes, people will grow up with hardships in their life, and it will shape them in an adverse way. Then you meet someone who develops, grows and matures because of their difficult situation. Haley Artinger is that person. She has every reason to be mad at others, to blame “the system, the man, society” and all the other typical things people blame when they have struggles in life. Rancho High School Fashion III and Fashion AS students participated in the final round of the Junior League of Las Vegas Fashion Forward Competition at Brooklyn Bowl. Students worked all year to produce and show garments fitting this year’s theme, “Hollywood Leading Ladies.” At the end of the fashion show, the judges identified the top eight designs from the 63 participants; three of those top spots were awarded to Rancho students. Rancho High School’s Culinary Students competed at the American Heart Association Teens Cook With Heart Competition, taking place at the MGM Las Vegas Culinary Academy. Jenna and Nuhamine took 1st place in the Level 1 Savory Category. Nysheem Heckendorn came to Clark High School for the first half of his freshman year. During this time, Nysheem struggled to make it to class, respect adults on campus and get along with his peers. He even struggled to pass a majority of his classes. Nysheem’s family decided to move at the beginning of second semester of his freshman year. Between the end of one school year and the start of the next, students risk summer learning loss, which often is better known as the “summer slide.” Up to 25 percent of a student’s school-year learning can be lost over the summer without engaging learning activities. The Clark County School District’s School-Community Partnership Program wants to increase the involvement of business and community leaders in public education. One of many ways CCSD strengthens these partnerships is through its annual Business Leader and Principal for a Day program. Business and community leaders shadow a principal for four hours on a special day in November during American Education Week, providing the community a personal look at education from the principal’s view. The Clark County School District is grateful for the generosity of Cafe Rio Mexican Grill, which is one of CCSD’s amazing new partners. Earlier this school year, Café Rio provided $10 gift certificates/awards for teachers of the month and students of the week. These certificates were given to four elementary schools, two middle schools, and one high school near each of their 13 local restaurants.
