Leaders from The Public Education Foundation (PEF) and Station Casinos held a check presentation ceremony at Helen Jydstrup Elementary School on August 10. Station Casinos donated $120,000 to the PEF for its “SmartStart” education program partnership benefitting 11 schools in Clark County. Students and teachers were welcomed back to school with a variety of activations across Station Casinos’ partner schools with special luncheons and school supply donations. “SmartStart” funds have helped purchase a book vending machine and implement the PAWS Palace (PBIS Rewards program) at Jydstrup ES for the 2022-2023 school year. Online registration for Clark County School District (CCSD) students for the 2023-24 school year is now open. Parents/guardians should note that the 2023-24 school year begins Aug. 7, 2023. Families new to CCSD may begin their registration process online via register.ccsd.net. Families with currently enrolled students can complete registration using Campus Parent via Infinite Campus (campusportal.ccsd.net). Parents or guardians who already have an Infinite Campus account will see an announcement through Campus Parent and a link connecting them to the 2023-24 registration page. LAS VEGAS – The Clark County School District (CCSD) recognizes the importance of mental health in every child’s development, well-being, and educational outcomes. Utilizing ESSER III (Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief) funding, the District is working with the Cook Center for Human Connection to provide families with free access to resources focusing on mental health challenges through ParentGuidance.org.  This new resource includes video courses on demand covering difficult parenting topics. The Clark County School District (CCSD) encourages students and families to start their summer fun with its annual social media challenge, the Summer Reading Photo Contest. The District recommends that students read for at least 30 minutes a day to continue building their literacy skills through the summer break. Students can choose to read a book, magazine, comic books, newspaper or listen to an audiobook. To participate, parents and students must post photos of their reading adventures using the hashtag #ReadWithMeCCSD. Agenda Item 2.08 – Focus: 2024 Strategic Plan Update pertaining to Teacher, Recruitment, and Critical Labor Shortage The Clark County School District (CCSD) made gains in hiring 20% more teachers than the previous year. The District developed and fostered relationships with Historically Black College and Universities as well as Hispanic Serving Institutions to recruit teachers.
