During the 2023-2024 school year, the Clark County School District has set its sights on reducing chronic absenteeism among students. As part of that effort, CCSD launched the Every Day Matters campaign to encourage daily attendance. The early results are encouraging as the District has reported a five percent increase in attendance through the first two months of the school year. One school in particular is ahead of the curve in addressing this challenge. Every year, CCSD celebrates Computer Science Education Week (CSEdWeek) which inspires students to learn computer science, advocate for equity and celebrate the contributions of students, teachers and partners to the field. This year’s theme is “Impacts of Computing,” which refers to the overall effects computer science has on our lives. During CSEdWeek, schools will be participating in the “Hour of Code” which is an introduction to computer science through fun activities.

The Nevada Department of Education (NDE) and Governor Joe Lombardo announced the selection of Edrecka Wolridge, a Campus Security Monitor at Fertitta Middle School, as a nominee for the Recognizing Inspiring School Employees (RISE) award. Ms. Wolridge was one of two Nevada school district employees chosen by the Governor to represent the state based on their dedication to students and school communities. She is currently a student teacher earning her teaching certificate through the Paraprofessionals Pathway Program, an alternate licensure option supported by ESSER funding. “We are so thankful to have Ms. Wolridge as part of our Firebird family,” said…

Clark County School District (CCSD) Social Studies teachers have been provided with a new and updated curriculum to help engage with students with the help of ESSER III funding. Through project-based learning activities, middle and high-school teachers are able to find different ways to connect with students. Watch the video here.

Nine Clark County School District (CCSD) schools were named to the 2022-23 Advanced Placement (AP) School Honor Roll. The award honors schools with AP programs that deliver results for students while broadening access. Multiple CCSD schools were also awarded the AP Access Award for demonstrating a clear and effective commitment to equitable access to advanced coursework. On Oct. 5, 2023, CCSD experienced a cybersecurity incident. The investigation into that incident remains open and active at this time, and CCSD is cooperating with the FBI as they investigate the incident. We know that many families and staff are frustrated because of this incident, as are we, and we appreciate the patience being granted in this situation. The Clark County School District (CCSD) provides students in all grade levels with programs enriched in STEM curriculum, and students continue to flourish with it. One example is the newly formed technology club at Dennis Ortwein Elementary School, where students are challenged to use their design skills to help their school community. The Clark County School District (CCSD) will be participating in National School Bus Safety week taking place from October 16 – 20, 2023, with the theme “Safely Rolling to my Destination.” Students are reminded they should stay out of the danger one, a 10-foot perimeter around the bus where the driver cannot see. Students should also wait off the street for the bus to come to a complete stop before loading. CCSD Transportation maintains the largest owned-operated school bus fleet in the country. Clark County School District (CCSD) is accepting applications for students interested in attending one of the District’s award-winning Magnet Schools. Applications must be submitted by January 9, 2024. Parents and families may attend several workshops from now until January 4, 2024, to learn more about the District’s programs.
