CCSD Board of School Trustees meeting recap Board receives update on education funding Agenda Item 5.01 – Legislative Updates  Trustees received an update regarding the 2021 Legislative Session and items related to education. The Board was provided with information on the movement of several bills that relate to education, as well as the news that the joint meeting of the Assembly Ways and Means and Senate Finance Committee approved a new adjustment of an additional $502 million for the biennium to go toward the Pupil-Centered Funding Formula. Kam’Ren is a wonderful student here at Canyon Springs High School. He is actively involved in the school and community and takes his school work and leadership responsibilities within the ROTC program seriously. He has many interests beyond academics. Five of his seven classes are AP courses and one is an Honors ROTC course where he is a ranking officer. Madison Dwyer is a star graduate because she perseveres through any challenge. After losing her sister to a rare brain disorder early in her formative years, Madison’s perspective on life and living changed. Not only is she an International Baccalaureate Diploma Candidate at Palo Verde High School, she is also the President of IB Council and an integral board member of the Nevada Association of IB World Schools Student Leadership, always respecting the perspectives of others and their relationships to the world. Meliyah is a student who exceeds expectations and works hard to achieve her goals. As the president of both our school’s IBCA (International Black Culture Association) and Educators Rising clubs, Meliyah is a leader on campus and an advocate for her peers. Meliyah is also active in promoting and inspiring school spirit as a member of our school’s varsity cheerleading team, our student council and KEEN Club. Agenda Item 3.02 2021-2022 Final Budget The Clark County School District (CCSD) Board of School Trustees approved the final budget for the 2021-22 school year. The projected budget revenue is $2.6 billion, an increase of $225.1 million from 2020-21. Chief Financial Officer Jason Goudie presented to the Board that the unassigned ending fund balance is anticipated to be $66.3 million or 2.5 percent of revenues. Here at Sierra Vista High School we didn’ look at the top of the honor roll, instead we focused on a graduate with an amazing journey despite barriers at nearly every step of his young life. We have chosen Dallas DeLuz as our Star Graduate. Dallas is a very bright, and hard working young man. Somehow he lost his confidence and gave up. Jara today announced the appointment of long-time educator and current CCSD Region 1 Superintendent Dr. Dustin Mancl as the Chief Academic Officer, who will replace current Chief Academic Officer Dr. Karla Loria. Agenda Item 5.04 – 5.09 – Memoranda of Agreement  The Clark County School District (CCSD) Board of School Trustees approved memoranda of agreement with the Education Support Employees Association (ESEA), Clark County Association of School Administrators and Professional-Technical Employees (CCASAPE) and the Clark County Education Association (CCEA) in relation to the Summer 2021 learning opportunities. The agreements detail scheduling, pay and other incentives for employees who work the Summer Acceleration, Extended School Year and the Secondary Summer School programs. Jimali Koteff is an outstanding senior at Las Vegas High School, her weighted GPA is a 5.2 and she is a Valedictorian candidate. In addition to effectively balancing her academics, Jimali has actively participated in Varsity Quiz, Sun Youth Forum, Varsity Swim, Orchestra, and school musicals. Jimali will be attending Chapman University in the fall where she was awarded a Presidential Scholarship.
