Superintendent Dr. Jesus F. Jara welcomes students and employees back for the 2019-20 school year.  Superintendent Jesus F. Jara outlines some of the successes of the 2018-19 school year and looks toward the goals set forth in Focus: 2024 for the 2019-20 school year.

One week before the start of the 2019-20 school year, during the 2019 Summer Commencement at the Orleans Arena, Clark County School District celebrated the accomplishments of truly dedicated students who earned their high school diplomas. More than 300 students from throughout Southern Nevada showed grit and determination to work through the summer to complete the coursework needed to graduate. Agenda Item 5.04 – Focus: 2024 Update The Clark County School District (CCSD) Board of School Trustees received an update from CCSD Chief of Facilities Dave McKinnis in relation to the Focus: 2024 goal of moving away from deferred maintenance. McKinnis provided trustees with maintenance plans for HVAC units to extend the life cycles of the equipment and reduce energy use. The Chief of Facilities says the goal should be to extend the service life of HVAC units at high schools by five to seven years, allowing more money to stay in the classroom. On Wednesday, August 7, the Clark County School District and local law enforcement held a press conference to discuss school safety. With the new school year starting on Monday, August 12, it is a great time for parents to discuss safety with their students. The CCSD Back to School website is a great resource for parents to use when talking to students about walking to and from school, being smart around strangers, or how to report dangerous situations they may encounter.

It has been determined that a vendor used by the Clark County School District (CCSD) has experienced a data security incident involving multiple school districts including CCSD. An older version of Pearson Clinical Assessment’s program—AIMSweb—is involved in the incident. It’s important to note that the only information exposed were student names and in some instances date of birth. Additionally, a small number of staff first and last names and work location were exposed. Any other identifying information was not revealed and was not compromised.  This incident impacts approximately 559,487 students enrolled at CCSD schools between 2008 and 2019, and a…

Clark County School District’s (CCSD) Family and Community Engagement Services (FACES) will work closely with schools and families this year to emphasize attendance – a critical part of CCSD’s Focus: 2024 strategic plan – and the importance it plays on overall school success for all students. With the 2019-20 school year underway, CCSD is seeking positive role models to give our struggling students the tools and confidence they need in order to stay in school and successfully graduate. “For students to thrive, they need someone to see them, hear them and understand who they are and where they come from,” says Shana Venenga, assistant director of the School-Community Partnership Program.
