Gov. Steve Sisolak issued a proclamation declaring this week (March 2-6) as School Social Work Week in Nevada. The proclamation celebrates the progress that has been made since the creation of the Office for a Safe and Respectful Learning Environment (OSRLE) within the Nevada Department of Education.  Nevada Superintendent of Public Instruction Jhone Ebert said, “We have made tremendous strides in creating positive school environments where students feel safe and are able not only to learn, but to thrive. The Clark County School District (CCSD) is launching universal free breakfast for all CCSD students during National School Breakfast Week (NSBW) March 2-6.  Breakfast offered by the CCSD Food Service Department features fresh and tasty menu selections that meet federal nutrition guidelines. Research shows that student participation in school breakfast has led to improved academic performance, reduced behavioral problems and improved nutritional status. CCSD’s universal free breakfast model will continue throughout the school year and will be a self-sustaining program through a federal subsidy received based on the number of meals served.

The Clark County School District (CCSD) is hiring for a number of vacant positions. To help prospective applicants, members of the Human Resources Division will go out into the community during the month of March to meet with those who may be interested in working for the District. “The Future Is CCSD” hiring fairs will be held on four different days at four different locations around the Las Vegas valley. At the fairs, applicants can visit with human resources representatives about the available positions and requirements for them. Agenda Item 5.01 – Human Capital Management System Update The Clark County School District (CCSD) Board of School Trustees received an update on the rollout of the Human Capital Management system and solutions put in place to address issues. Since the system went live in January, District staff report they have increased system controls and targeted training for timekeepers and approvers. The new HCM system is processing up to 18,000 absence, time and position pending transactions at any given time. The system has been utilized to advertise nearly 1,000 positions. Thurman White Academy of the Performing Arts 8th grade student, Abigail Panariso was chosen as the nation’s Prudential Spirit of Community Award winner. Abigail is a member of Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada and donated more than $1,300 last year to buy eight new wheelchairs for veterans traveling on free “honor flights” to Washington, D.C., organized a letter-writing campaign that produced more than 500 letters thanking them for their service, and recruited hundreds of people to welcome them back home after their trip. Veterans Tribute Career & Technical Academy (VTCTA) hosted a U.S Army nationwide live oath of enlistment ceremony from space on Feb. 26. Col. Andrew Morgan, NASA astronaut and U.S. Army soldier, administered the oath from the International Space Station to more than 900 future soldiers who participate at 130 locations across the country. VTCTA was chosen to host this event for the Las Vegas Valley due to their strong commitment to the U.S Military. The Nevada Department of Education nominated three CCSD schools as national Blue Ribbon Schools. Judith D. Steele Elementary is nominated for the “Exemplary Achievement Gap Closing Schools” category and Veterans Tribute Career and Technical Academy (CTA) and West Career and Technical Academy are both nominated for the “Exemplary High Performing Schools” category. A national nonprofit organization, Heroes to Education, and the Clark County School District will co-host a recruitment event on Feb. 27 to share with veterans and their spouses the many employment opportunities at CCSD. Agenda Item 3.01 – Focus: 2024 Strategic Plan Update The Clark County School District (CCSD) Board of School Trustees received an update on MAP Growth assessment data which works to support Focus: 2024 Student Success Priority Area 1 aimed at increasing student achievement in English language arts, mathematics and science. As a key component of the district’s Balanced Assessment System, the MAP Growth Assessment is a districtwide interim assessment.
