CCSD Board of School Trustees meeting recap, Feb. 13

Agenda Item 3.01 – Focus: 2024 Strategic Plan Update

The Clark County School District (CCSD) Board of School Trustees received an update on MAP Growth assessment data which works to support Focus: 2024 Student Success Priority Area 1 aimed at increasing student achievement in English language arts, mathematics and science.

As a key component of the district’s Balanced Assessment System, the MAP Growth Assessment is a districtwide interim assessment. The assessment is formative in nature and given three times a year to gauge student growth in reading and mathematics in kindergarten through ninth grade, and science in grades third through eighth. The winter benchmark data indicates that most of our grade levels grew just right under, at, or even a little above the national norm of 50%.

Agenda Item 6.03 – Innovative Middle Schools

The Board received a presentation on academic plans for the eight CCSD middle schools identified as Innovative Middle Schools.

The Innovative Schools program started this school year and identified teachers with a strong track record of success in student achievement to participate in this pilot incentive program with the goal of creating more stability and less staff turnover at these high-need schools.

Teachers who teach at the designated schools are eligible to receive recruitment and retention supplemental pay. They are also eligible for an additional performance supplement based on student outcomes. They also receive additional planning period
time prior to the start of school. The pilot program runs through June 2022.
