Del Sol Academy of the Performing Arts mariachi students who are members of “Encendido” and “Fuego” participated in the Disney Imagination Campus at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. The students earned the opportunity to experience what it feels like to be a professional performer on and off the stage. As part of Imagination Campus, students are treated as working professionals and become honorary Disney Cast Members for the day. The youngest son of immigrant parents from a small, rural community in El Salvador, Joel Lemus is rising above all expectations. Through growing up watching his parents’ struggles to provide the American Dream to his family, Joel has come to value hard work and education. Once a C student in middle school, Joel is currently on track to be Salutatorian with a 4.861 GPA. Clark County School District (CCSD) families are invited to attend the next Family Academy event on April 6, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Western High School, 4601 W. Bonanza Rd. Workshops focused on summer learning at-home will be available to families. Participants will receive the resources and tools to support their student. Parents/guardians can choose to attend the adult session, or the session for families learning together. Court is in session at West Career and Technical Academy (CTA), where the school’s mock trial team recently won the 2024 Nevada High School Mock Trial Competition. ‘West CTA Team Black’ beat out seven other teams from across Nevada to win the state championship, put on by the State Bar of Nevada and is now eying a win at the National High School Mock Trial Championship.
