The Clark County School District (CCSD) encourages students and families to start their summer fun with its annual social media challenge, the Summer Reading Photo Contest. The District recommends that students read for at least 30 minutes a day to continue building their literacy skills through the summer break. Students can choose to read a book, magazine, comic books, newspaper or listen to an audiobook. To participate, parents and students must post photos of their reading adventures using the hashtag #ReadWithMeCCSD. Agenda Item 2.08 – Focus: 2024 Strategic Plan Update pertaining to Teacher, Recruitment, and Critical Labor Shortage The Clark County School District (CCSD) made gains in hiring 20% more teachers than the previous year. The District developed and fostered relationships with Historically Black College and Universities as well as Hispanic Serving Institutions to recruit teachers. Agenda Item 2.21 – New Grant Application: Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, Nevada Department of Education, Title IV, Part A, United States Department of Education The Clark County School District (CCSD) Board of Trustees approved a grant application for the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act grant to provide students with safer and healthier learning environments. The $1.7 million federal grant will help the Clark County School District Police Department (CCSDPD) implement the newly formed Middle School Division. Students in Pre-Kindergarten to fifth grade are invited to a fun-filled evening full of storytelling at the Family Support Center, 1720 S. Maryland Pkwy., from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 29.  Students are encouraged to explore books from different countries and cultures from around the world. There will be book-making stations, interactive storytelling, family learning and resources, prizes and free books while supplies last.  Light refreshments will be served. Families may now register students for kindergarten if they turn 5 years old by August 1 for the 2023-24 school year LAS VEGAS – The Clark County School District (CCSD) seeks to inform parents regarding recent updates to Nevada law regarding kindergarten enrollment age requirements. The new age requirements passed by the Nevada Legislature means that students must be 5 years old by August 1, 2023, to register for kindergarten for the 2023-2024 school year. The Clark County School District (CCSD) offered free-of-charge summer learning opportunities to accelerate the academic, social-emotional, and behavioral development of all CCSD students. Summer Acceleration for students in Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12 began May 30-June 16, 2023. Students attend five days a week for a six-hour instructional day to support students’ learning and social-emotional well-being. Summer learning opportunities are funded through ESSER.
