Kinder age eligibility & Pre-K enrollment request

Families may now register students for kindergarten if they turn 5 years old by August 1 for the 2023-24 school year

LAS VEGAS – The Clark County School District (CCSD) seeks to inform parents regarding recent updates to Nevada law regarding kindergarten enrollment age requirements.

The new age requirements passed by the Nevada Legislature means that students must be 5 years old by August 1, 2023, to register for kindergarten for the 2023-2024 school year. Previously, students had to be 5 years of age by the first day of school to enroll in kindergarten. The first day of school for CCSD students is August 7, 2023, for the 2023-24 school year.

Exception for Pre-K
Families with students born between August 2, 2018, and August 7, 2018, have the option to enroll in kindergarten for the 2023-2024 school year if they attended Pre-K.

Acceptable Pre-K programs include:
CCSD Pre-K / Typical Peer programs
Homeschool Pre-K programs
Private School or Day Care Pre-K programs
Community-based Pre-K programs

1st Grade requirements
Additionally, students must be 6 years of age by August 1, 2023, to enroll in first grade unless they have previously attended kindergarten. Students who do not meet this age requirement will be required to wait until the beginning of the following school year following the child’s sixth birthday.

For the upcoming school year:

If the student is age 5 and has not completed kindergarten, they will be admitted into kindergarten
If the student has completed at least 6 weeks of kindergarten, they will be admitted into first grade

These changes are part of Assembly Bill 65 passed by lawmakers during Nevada’s 82nd Legislative Session.

Beginning July 1, 2024, under the new law, children are required to start school by the age of 6. Previously, families were able to have students start school by the age of 7.

Online registration for CCSD students is now open for the 2023-24 school year.

Families new to CCSD may begin their registration process online via
Families with currently enrolled students can complete registration using Campus Parent via Infinite Campus (

Parents or guardians who already have an Infinite Campus account will see an announcement through Campus Parent and a link connecting them to the 2023-24 registration page. Families with multiple children will also see an option in certain areas to copy the responses from one child to the next, speeding up the process. Families can use a computer or a mobile device to complete registration.

Families with students new to CCSD or returning after leaving the District will need to provide the required documents to the child’s zoned school.

CCSD Pre-Kindergarten (Pre-K) programs are accepting enrollment requests for the 2023-2024 school year. Parents and guardians must complete the Pre-K Interest Form by clicking here to have their student placed on the interest and/or waitlist.

All students must meet the following requirements to be considered for Pre-K programs:

  • Student must be three years old prior to August 1, 2023.
  • Student cannot be eligible for Kindergarten enrollment.
  • Parent/guardian must transport student to and from school.

Most CCSD Pre-K programs are half-day with a limited number of full-day programs.

If selected, students will be offered a Pre-K seat at their zoned school, if available. If there is no availability at their zoned school, the student will be offered a seat at the closest school with an opening. Students will be placed on a waitlist if there are no available seats at nearby schools.

Parents/guardians will be notified via email of their student’s placement no later than July 21, 2023, and will be provided with registration instructions. Students will continue to be placed into Pre-K programs until May 10, 2024. Parents/guardians with students on the waitlist will be notified of their student’s placement as soon as there is an available seat.
