Arturo B. Cambeiro was born on April 19, 1932, in Havana, Cuba, where he received a bachelor’s degree in science and architecture. When he was 29 years old, Mr. Cambeiro and his family immigrated to the United States. They did not have very much and did not know the language. The Cambeiro family lived in Miami and Los Angeles before landing in Las Vegas, where Mr. Cambeiro became Nevada’s first licensed Hispanic architect. Aldeane Comito Ries’s dedication will always be remembered in the Clark County School District (CCSD). She dedicated her professional life to our school district and built a legacy with decades of service to various of our schools.  In her 38 years of service as an educator, Aldeane Comito Ries worked in every educational level beginning in elementary school and then moving to the junior high and high school level. Money to be invested in high-quality Pre-K instruction The Clark County School District (CCSD) was selected by the Governor’s Office and the Nevada Department of Education as a recipient of the Early Childhood Innovative Literacy Program grant. The competitive grant awarded the District $10,009,738 to go towards improving literacy and readiness for children under six years of age, as well as those that serve areas with a higher proportion of children in need. Reynaldo Martinez was born in Chama, New Mexico, in 1937. He was raised in Henderson, Nevada and was a student at Basic High School in 1957. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Arizona State University in 1961. Before he started his teaching career, he served in the United States Naval Reserve. Mr. Martinez began his teaching career at Western High School. He was named Outstanding Teacher in Clark County in 1966. Mr. Martinez was also recognized for his time as a baseball coach and coached two state high school championships and one legion state championship. He was also…

The legacy of Edmundo “Eddie” Escobedo will live on forever within the Clark County School District (CCSD) community.  Mr. Escobedo was a distinguished businessman and supporter of various local Hispanic and civic organizations in Las Vegas.  Born in Torreon, Coahuila, Mexico, Mr. Escobedo arrived in El Paso, Texas in 1953 where he worked in the food service industry before enlisting into the Air Force where he worked on jet mechanics as a parachute rigger.  After being honorably discharged from the military he landed in Clark County where he began his entrepreneurship promoting live Mexican dances with top musical groups. Judge John F. Mendoza was born on January 13, 1928 in Las Vegas, NV.  He was a student at Las Vegas High School and the captain of the school’s football team in 1944, leading the team to many victories as a running back. The Wildcats’ 1944 team drew capacity crowds at the field in downtown Las Vegas, while also setting another high standard with a long list of players who eventually entered the legal profession. Two Clark County School District (CCSD) schools held 9/11 memorial ceremonies to honor the lives lost during the September 11, 2011 attacks. Valley High School hosted its annual remembrance ceremony on Friday, September 8, 2023, in memory of the lives lost during the attacks. Its Viking Battalion and the Battalion Saber team will gather and salute in tribute to the victims.  Palo Verde High School also held its annual rededication ceremony on Friday, September 8, 2023, in honor of the victims, including its foreign languages teacher Barbara Edwards. Since the start of negotiations, the Clark County School District (CCSD) has committed to increasing pay for educators utilizing the increased state funding approved by Governor Joe Lombado and the Nevada Legislature. As outlined in the attached document, CCSD’s proposal includes $634 million in increased funding for licensed employee compensation and benefits, not including SB 231 funding, until it is negotiated. CCSD’s proposal is part of a balanced budget that ensures the District can cover all expenses through the biennium and in perpetuity.
