The Clark County School District (CCSD) will be participating in National School Bus Safety week taking place from October 16 – 20, 2023, with the theme “Safely Rolling to my Destination.” Students are reminded they should stay out of the danger one, a 10-foot perimeter around the bus where the driver cannot see. Applications must be submitted by January 9, 2024. Parents and families may attend several workshops from now until January 4, 2024, to learn more about the District’s programs. The Clark County School District Police Department (CCSDPD) has received four grants from the Nevada Department of Public Safety, Office of Traffic Safety (NVOTS). Below you will find details on the grants totaling $374,000:   Zero Teen Fatalities (ZTF) – Coordinator CCSDPD received a grant from the NVOTS in the amount of $150,000. Estes M. McDoniel was born on April 3, 1919, in Arkansas and went to school in Batesville. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in education from the University of Arkansas where he also received two letters in varsity football and three letters in varsity track. Mr. McDoniel also earned a Master of Education degree at Utah State University. He began his teaching career in Arkansas for a short while before moving to Henderson, Nevada in 1943 where he would soon become the first football coach at Basic High School. Liliam Lujan Hickey was an outstanding member of the Hispanic community who always had the desire to serve her community and who promoted educational programs throughout Nevada.  Hickey was born in Havana, Cuba in 1932. In 1964 her husband had the opportunity to work in a casino in the fast-expanding City of Las Vegas, so they made the big move.  Hickey established Career Day for high school students, which over the years awarded over $300,000 in scholarships to Hispanic students. Tony Alamo was born June 4, 1941 in Isabela de Sagua, Cuba before arriving in Miami in 1961.   In 1963, he married his wife Maria and moved to Nevada in 1974, where he became a U.S. citizen. Raul P. Elizondo, Jr. was born on July 21, 1967, in Mesa, Arizona. He was raised in Henderson, Nevada and attended Basic High School, where he was a member of the 1984 State Championship wrestling team. His mother, Ann, was a teacher at the Clark County School District. Officer Elizondo became a North Las Vegas police officer on March 13, 1992, and was recognized for his dedicated service within two years by the Chief of Police. He received the highest award possible from the North Las Vegas Police Association and was honored as the 1994 Police Office of the Year. …
