Agenda Item 4 – Discuss the Open Schools – Open Doors Interlocal Agreement Between CCSD and Clark County Both boards jointly discussed the Open Schools – Open Doors Agreement. The agreement would open portions of CCSD campuses to the public after school hours. As part of the agreement with Clark County, community members would be able to access school campuses during non-school hours. A Call for Nominations is now underway to name one new elementary school slated to open fall 2020. Applications must be submitted by July 31, 2019. A new application is required; applications from previous naming efforts are not being considered. Board Agenda Item 5.02 –  Acceleration Academies Agreement The Clark County School District (CCSD) Board of School Trustees approved a new program aimed at helping former students earn their high school diploma and develop the skills needed for high demand jobs. The program, funded by the Workforce Investment Opportunity Board, allows students who left the school system to come back to a very supportive, individualized program until they are 26. “This program can help students rediscover a love for learning and a career path after they initially decided to leave the school system,” CCSD Superintendent Dr. Jesus F. The CCSD Board of School Trustees had to find alternate locations for several meetings due to planned technology upgrades to the regular board room at the Edward A. The Clark County School District (CCSD) will be one of just a few school districts nationally whose students and educators will benefit from participating in a new MAP Accelerator pilot program to bring greater equity and access to students. MAP Accelerator is a unique new classroom tool created by nonprofit organizations Khan Academy and NWEA designed to help teachers deeply integrate personalized learning and assessment to accelerate student learning. Superintendent Dr. Jesus F. Jara provided an update to the Clark County School District (CCSD) Board of School Trustees regarding the District’s budget for the upcoming 2019-20 and 2020-21 fiscal years, and impact to school safety and academic programs. While CCSD appreciates the additional funding allocated in the 2019 Legislative session to provide employees with a seniority increase and a 3 percent salary increase, it was not enough to cover the increased operational costs CCSD has sustained.
