Clark County School District (CCSD), working with community partners, has launched a one-stop shop website to provide information to educators, students, and parents about apprenticeship programs in Southern Nevada. Apprenticeship.ccsd.net provides information for students to explore many of the apprenticeship programs offered in the skilled trades, medical field and cybersecurity/information technology field. One of CCSD’s many ambitious goals in its five-year strategic plan, Focus: 2024, is to ensure that every student who graduates is college and career ready. Sarah Flores, a learning strategist at Wing and Lilly Fong Elementary School in the Clark County School District, has always looked for ways for her students to explore Nevada history as part of their social studies curriculum. Flores says that for the last two years she was able to arrange field trips for her whole fourth-grade level to the Nevada State Museum, Las Vegas – a state-of-the-art facility located at the Springs Preserve that the Nevada Division of Museums and History operates. “It was a terrific experience both years, and my students learned a lot about Nevada history,” Flores says…

The Clark County School District’s Transportation Department has developed a new mobile app, available to students and parents, to help them track buses before and after school. The Onboard app provides real-time tracking of buses so users know when buses are expected to arrive.  The idea for the app was generated by Mayra Sandoval, a 2018 graduate of East Career and Technical Academy who is a student worker for CCSD’s Transportation Division. Throughout the school year, Superintendent Dr. Jesus F. Jara honors employees who go above and beyond for students and/or colleagues, surprising them with a Challenge Coin. Dr. Jara encourages employees to nominate a colleague by submitting an email to communications@nv.newsroom.ccsd.net. Provide the employee’s name and work location, and describe how he or she has gone the extra mile in making CCSD #1 for kids. Clark County School District Superintendent Dr. Jesus F. Jara announced that the district will not be eliminating the Dean of Students position as a part of the 2019-2020 school year budget balancing effort. Instead, CCSD middle and high schools will need to reduce their budgets by approximately $98 per pupil of their projected enrollment, allowing building principals and School Organizational Teams (SOTs) to look at their own budgets and decide where they want to make cuts. The Clark County School District (CCSD) will assist students and families as they prepare for the 2019-20 school year during the 12th Annual Cox Back to School Fairs, being held at local shopping malls during July and August. CCSD is encouraging all students to take advantage of the summer break and enjoy a great book. Parents and students may share pictures on social media of them reading their favorite book using #CCSDReads and be eligible to win prizes donated by the community until July 31. Students risk summer learning loss, which is often known as the “summer slide.” Students can continue building on their reading skills over the summer months. Online registration for Clark County School District (CCSD) students for the 2019-20 school year is open. Parents should note that the 2019-20 school year will begin on Aug. 12, 2019. Families new to CCSD may begin their registration process online via register.ccsd.net. Families with currently enrolled students can complete registration using Parent Portal via Infinite Campus (campusportal.ccsd.net). The process will take less than five minutes for existing CCSD households.
