Due to the extreme staffing shortages based on the high number of positive COVID-19 cases, the District is adjusting the 2021-2022 District calendar to provide a five-day pause in alignment with the COVID-19 Quarantine and Isolation Guidance. This five-day pause will promote a safe, healthy learning environment in our schools to “Stop the Spread” in order to continue face-to-face instruction. The Clark County School District (CCSD) announced tentative agreements with all employee bargaining units for COVID retention bonuses for all full-time employees. As part of the agreement, all full-time employees employed as of January 1, 2022, will receive a COVID retention bonus of $1,000. CCSD will pay an additional $1,000 bonus to employees employed full-time on May 25, 2022. The Clark County School District (CCSD) Board of School Trustees elected their officers for the 2022 calendar year during a work session public meeting Wednesday. The board selected Trustee Irene A. Cepeda to serve as president, Trustee Evelyn Garcia Morales to serve as vice president, and Trustee Lola Brooks to serve as clerk. Trustee Irene A. Cepeda represents District D and was first elected to the school board in 2018. Representing District C, Trustee Evelyn Garcia Morales, was first elected to the board in 2020. The Smith Center and The Rogers Foundation open nominations for the 7th-annual Heart of Education Awards. Application deadline for the 2022 Heart of Education Awards has been extended to Friday January 21, 2022. Anyone can nominate a CCSD teacher who goes above and beyond at TheHeartofEducation.org. Once a nomination has been submitted, each nominated teacher will receive an email notification to complete a separate online application. CCSD wishes our staff, students and families a safe and relaxing winter break. Schools will be closed until Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2022, when the new semester will begin. We are working with local and state health officials to monitor ongoing COVID-19 developments and are aware of the recent surge in positivity rates in our community. Mitigation strategies are in place to protect the health of our students and staff through our cleaning protocols by preparing CCSD schools and facilities for their safe return. Agenda item 5.02 – 2021-2022 Amended Final Budget  The Clark County School District (CCSD) Board of School Trustees approved the amended final budget that will be submitted to the State of Nevada ahead of the January 1, 2022 deadline. The general operating budget includes total expenditures of approximately $2.9 billion and an ending fund balance of $250.3 million. The approved budget includes a projected 4% unassigned ending fund balance of $114.6 million. Safety, academics and school climate are among the many topics at the center of the 2021 Clark County School District (CCSD) Districtwide Parent/Guardian Survey. The survey is available online from Nov. 1 until 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 17, 2021, at ccsd.net/survey. The 5-minute survey, available in English and Spanish, is confidential and part of the District’s efforts to engage the community on important issues facing students and their families.
