CCSD and Character Lab announce partnership to promote greater student learning by developing character strengths

Superintendent Dr. Jesus Jara, during a recent assembly at Bob Miller Middle School, announced an exciting partnership between the Clark County School District and the nonprofit Character Lab Research Network.

On hand at the announcement at the middle school was renowned educator Angela Duckworth, the founder and CEO of Character Lab. Duckworth, a professor at the University of Pennsylvania and best-selling author of “Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance,” shared her insights and knowledge, and spoke to the students and staff about this partnership.

The superintendent, in introducing Dr. Duckworth, mentioned that she would talk about topics that students may not normally hear about – character strengths like grit, curiosity, humility and empathy – and that he looked forward to this partnership to help more students develop these character strengths.

Dr. Jara said Character Lab is a unique consortium of innovative schools around the country that promotes greater learning and student achievement.

Character Lab enables schools to work collaboratively with leading scientists to conduct more sophisticated research – research that is student-centered and aligned with school needs – and bring the latest character development strategies to schools.

Dr. Jara views Bob Miller Middle School as one of Clark County School District’s model schools.

“As a model school, this provides us with the perfect opportunity to implement innovative new programs and services so you can accelerate your learning,” Dr. Jara said.
