The Green Our Planet’s Giant Student Farmers Market took place on Oct. 20 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Clark County Government Center.        Billed as the largest student market in the U.S., the event featured more than 500 students from 50+ schools in Southern Nevada, students run the market themselves, selling school-grown fruits, herbs, veggies, and crafts to the public. Contributions are then reinvested back into the school’s garden programs. The market is held every fall and spring. The Clark County School District (CCSD) will observe Week of Respect during the first week of October. Governor Sisolak has proclaimed October 3- 7, 2022, as the “Week of Respect.” Schools across CCSD will participate in activities every day to emphasize a safe and respectful learning environment and we are asking all of our students and employees to wear blue on “Get Your Blue On” Friday. This unifying gesture demonstrates that CCSD is committed to reducing instances of bullying in our schools and treating each other with respect. The Clark County (CCSD) School District Board of School Trustees received a presentation about the District’s grading reform. Through the work of the principal-led Grading Reform Committee, the District has identified four priority areas to focus efforts to ensure accurate, meaningful grades supportive of student learning. The multi-year plan addresses the following changes: Implement an equal (balanced) grading scale. Remove behavior from the grading process. A total of 11 Clark County School District (CCSD) schools were honored with the College Success Award by GreatSchools.org. National Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated from Sept. 15 – Oct. 15 each year. This is a time to highlight the Hispanic heritage and culture and to recognize the contributions made by Hispanics in our country. Hispanic Americans have influenced and enriched our nation through history, culture and accomplishments.  The Family Engagement Department along with other community partners will be hosting a Super Saturday: Social Emotional Learning event. This event is for families and students in PK-6th grade. There will be interactive workshops, a community resource fair, prizes, and free lunch for all who attend. The Clark County School District (CCSD) and community leaders celebrated the opening of the new Family Support Center on Sept. 28, 2022. The Family Support Center offers students and families free ongoing support including workshops, classes, consultations and other resources to help students succeed in school.
