Reading and hearing accounts of the negotiations between the Clark County School District (CCSD) and CCEA on the teachers’ contract, it is clear that there have been misunderstandings, and possible misrepresentations, regarding CCSD’s contract proposals. Leaders from The Public Education Foundation (PEF) and Station Casinos held a check presentation ceremony at Helen Jydstrup Elementary School on August 10. Station Casinos donated $120,000 to the PEF for its “SmartStart” education program partnership benefitting 11 schools in Clark County. Students and teachers were welcomed back to school with a variety of activations across Station Casinos’ partner schools with special luncheons and school supply donations. “SmartStart” funds have helped purchase a book vending machine and implement the PAWS Palace (PBIS Rewards program) at Jydstrup ES for the 2022-2023 school year. Families new to CCSD may begin their registration process online via register.ccsd.net. After the initial lottery process, a select number of Magnet seats remain in CCSD schools and/or programs for families considering late applications. The deadline for late applications is Aug. 18. LAS VEGAS – The Clark County School District (CCSD) recognizes the importance of mental health in every child’s development, well-being, and educational outcomes. Utilizing ESSER III (Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief) funding, the District is working with the Cook Center for Human Connection to provide families with free access to resources focusing on mental health challenges through ParentGuidance.org.  This new resource includes video courses on demand covering difficult parenting topics. The Clark County School District (CCSD) encourages students and families to start their summer fun with its annual social media challenge, the Summer Reading Photo Contest. The District recommends that students read for at least 30 minutes a day to continue building their literacy skills through the summer break. Students can choose to read a book, magazine, comic books, newspaper or listen to an audiobook. To participate, parents and students must post photos of their reading adventures using the hashtag #ReadWithMeCCSD.
