On Oct. 5, 2023, CCSD experienced a cybersecurity incident. The investigation into that incident remains open and active at this time, and CCSD is cooperating with the FBI as they investigate the incident. We know that many families and staff are frustrated because of this incident, as are we, and we appreciate the patience being granted in this situation. The Clark County School District (CCSD) provides students in all grade levels with programs enriched in STEM curriculum, and students continue to flourish with it. One example is the newly formed technology club at Dennis Ortwein Elementary School, where students are challenged to use their design skills to help their school community. The Clark County School District (CCSD) will be participating in National School Bus Safety week taking place from October 16 – 20, 2023, with the theme “Safely Rolling to my Destination.” Students are reminded they should stay out of the danger one, a 10-foot perimeter around the bus where the driver cannot see. Clark County School District (CCSD) is accepting applications for students interested in attending one of the District’s award-winning Magnet Schools. Applications must be submitted by January 9, 2024. Parents and families may attend several workshops from now until January 4, 2024, to learn more about the District’s programs. The Clark County School District Police Department (CCSDPD) has received four grants from the Nevada Department of Public Safety, Office of Traffic Safety (NVOTS). Below you will find details on the grants totaling $374,000:   Zero Teen Fatalities (ZTF) – Coordinator CCSDPD received a grant from the NVOTS in the amount of $150,000. Estes M. McDoniel was born on April 3, 1919, in Arkansas and went to school in Batesville. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in education from the University of Arkansas where he also received two letters in varsity football and three letters in varsity track. Mr. McDoniel also earned a Master of Education degree at Utah State University. He began his teaching career in Arkansas for a short while before moving to Henderson, Nevada in 1943 where he would soon become the first football coach at Basic High School. Liliam Lujan Hickey was an outstanding member of the Hispanic community who always had the desire to serve her community and who promoted educational programs throughout Nevada.  Hickey was born in Havana, Cuba in 1932. In 1964 her husband had the opportunity to work in a casino in the fast-expanding City of Las Vegas, so they made the big move.  Hickey established Career Day for high school students, which over the years awarded over $300,000 in scholarships to Hispanic students. The Clark County School District (CCSD) will observe the Week of Respect during the first week of October, beginning Monday, Oct. 2 through Friday, Oct. 6. Schools across the District will participate in activities all week to emphasize a safe and respectful learning environment.  CCSD students and staff are encouraged to “Get Your Blue On” on Friday, Oct. 6 by wearing blue.
