Clark County School District (CCSD) and Education Support Employees Association (ESEA) representatives met today in a spirit of cooperation to continue contract negotiations. The offer under consideration includes a 3 percent pay raise, a step increase, and 4 percent additional contribution toward employee health insurance for an estimated $22.8 million.  The district is strongly encouraged by the reaction from ESEA to the latest offer and is hopeful that an agreement can be reached in the coming days to ensure our hard working support professionals receive the compensation they deserve.  We will continue to provide updates as the negotiation process progresses.

Clark County School District (CCSD) has been recognized with the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR). Gail Hudson of John R. Hummel Elementary School was honored in a surprise ceremony on Aug. 26 for being named the 2020 Nevada Teacher of the Year. Hudson immigrated from Belize and has been an educator for 32 years. Hudson serves as Hummel Elementary’s Equity and Diversity Site Liaison and Title I Site Coordinator. On Friday, Aug. 23, 2019, the Clark County School District, in a negotiation session with the Clark County Education Association (CCEA), proposed a two-year agreement that would provide additional compensation to all licensed educators based on the additional biennial funding approved by the Nevada Legislature in June 2019. The offer included a three percent (3%) increase in pay effective 2019-2020, step increases for all eligible licensed educators in both 2019-2020 and 2020-2021, and a four percent (4%) increase in CCSD’s contribution to each licensed educators health insurance costs. Board members from the Edna Rose Crane Educational Foundation are currently in the process of visiting 11 Clark County School District (CCSD) elementary schools to present them with checks totaling $373,000 for these schools. The funds will be used to purchase literacy curriculum, math curriculum and manipulatives, technology for classrooms, a digital library and reading books. Many new and returning students may be eligible for free and reduced-price meals through the National School Lunch Program (NSLP), School Breakfast Program (SBP), Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), and the After School Care Snack Program (ASCSP), available in Clark County School District schools. Clark County School District kicked off the 2019-20 school year by celebrating the opening of two new schools (Sandra B. Abston Elementary School and Earl N. Jenkins Elementary School) and three replacement schools (E.W. Griffith Elementary School, Twin Lakes Elementary School, and J.M. Ullom Elementary School). Schools held open houses and ribbon-cutting ceremonies, offering families and the community an opportunity to see the new schools and honor the contributions made by the schools’ namesakes.
