Booker Senior Innovative Elementary School was honored in a surprise virtual ceremony for being selected as the 2021 Nevada Teacher of the Year with Governor Steve Sisolak, State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jhone Ebert and CCSD Superintendent Dr. Jesus F. Clark County School District high school seniors and juniors are encouraged to learn more about the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). There is no cost to students or their families to complete the application. Even if you are not sure about attending college, students are encouraged to complete a FAFSA just in case there may be a need for possible financial assistance consideration for college. Clark County School District (CCSD), due in large part to the support of community partners, has been making significant progress in getting devices and internet connectivity for its students. About two months ago, the Nevada COVID-19 Response, Relief, and Recovery Task Force, in coordination with community partners, launched a statewide initiative to connect students with internet service and devices as the District initiated full-time distance education. The Connecting Kids Nevada campaign started by inviting parents/guardians to participate in a CCSD survey to assess the need. Free “Stop, Swab & Go” coronavirus testing Clark County, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the state of Nevada have partnered to provide drive-through coronavirus tests at no cost from August 31 to September 18.  The “Stop, Swab & Go” campaign will take place at three locations around the Valley. Agenda Item 6.02 – Legislative Bill Drafts CCSD Board of School Trustees voted to move forward with its legislative bill drafts for the 2021 Nevada Legislative Session ahead of the September 1 deadline to submit to the Legislative Counsel Bureau. The two bill drafts to be submitted on behalf of CCSD will focus on: Internet connectivity for kids Proposed legislation would seek to provide funding to connect all Nevada’s K-12 schools, technical colleges, institutions of higher education, public libraries, community and recreational centers and healthcare providers throughout the state. Three Clark County School District (CCSD) schools have been named National Blue Ribbon Schools by the U.S. Department of Education (DOE) today. The CCSD schools honored are: Veterans Tribute Career and Technical Academy West Career and Technical Academy  Judith D. Steele Elementary School  The three CCSD schools were the only Nevada schools selected for this national honor this year.
