West CTA mock trial team takes state championship, eyes Nationals

Court is in session at West Career and Technical Academy (CTA), where the school’s mock trial team recently won the 2024 Nevada High School Mock Trial Competition.

‘West CTA Team Black’ beat out seven other teams from across Nevada to win the state championship, put on by the State Bar of Nevada and is now eying a win at the National High School Mock Trial Championship.

The West CTA program began in 2020 and features two teams of students in grades 9-12 who are coached by lawyers.

‘West CTA Team Black,’ which comprises eight students, will represent Nevada at Nationals, where it will compete against more than 40 teams from around the world.

The students have already garnered support from the local legal community with $13,000 in donations from law firms and the State Bar of Nevada.

The National High School Mock Trial Championship will occur in Wilmington, Delaware, May 2-4, 2024.
