Tony Alamo was born June 4, 1941, in Isabela de Sagua, Cuba before arriving in Miami in 1961.   In 1963, he married his wife Maria and moved to Nevada in 1974, where he became a U.S. citizen. Mr. Alamo’s college education and U.S. citizenship were earned entirely through his own effort. He was a passionate advocate of freedom, hard work, integrity, and education. He began his career in gaming as a janitor for Harrah’s Hotel in Reno, Nevada, and worked his way up the corporate ladder.

Mr. Alamo served as a Commissioner on Tourism and served on the selection committee for Military Academics. He’s been recognized by the community with a Tourism Award (1984), the Hispanic of the Year Award (1993) by the Las Vegas Latin Chamber of Commerce, the Community Hero Award by the National Conference for Community and Justice (NCCJ), and Hotelier of the Year 2001 by the Nevada Hotel and Lodging Association. Mr. Alamo shared his experiences with the community and served on the board of the Clark County Public Education Foundation and Mandalay Resort Group’s Diversity Committee.
