Durango High School students have won the NASA TechRise Challenge for the second year in a row! After presenting their plans for a rocket-powered lander, students will begin working on the official prototype under the name “Project Helios.” Students will have a chance to test their experiments on a NASA-sponsored commercial suborbital flight platform.  The proposal submitted for Project Helios met the requirements for a winning rocket-powered lander: the ability to fly for approximately two minutes at an altitude of 80 feet over a test field designed to look like the moon’s surface. The Clark County School District (CCSD) is celebrating Black History Month by sharing the inspiring stories of CCSD’s African-American namesakes who were pioneers in their profession and some of the District’s firsts in education.  H.P. Fitzgerald was the first African-American principal in Nevada in 1956 at Kit Carson Elementary School, currently known as Helen Toland International Academy. He also served as principal of Jo Mackey Elementary School from 1961 to 1972. He worked for the District for 25 years. Clark County School District (CCSD) middle schools have their sights set on world domination in the universe of VEX IQ Robotics competition. The Clark County School District (CCSD) is accepting enrollment requests for Pre-Kindergarten (Pre-K) programs for the 2024-25 school year. The District offers more than 13,000 free Pre-K seats in over 600 Early Childhood programs. CCSD families need to complete the Pre-K Interest Form to have their student placed on the interest and/or waitlist.  All students must meet the following requirements to be considered for Pre-K programs: Student must be three years old before August 1, 2024. The presentation is part of the Board’s monitoring of progress toward goals outlined in CCSD’s five-year strategic plan. Through Safe Routes to School, the Clark County School District (CCSD) encourages safe walking and bicycling to and from schools. Crossing guards help students cross the streets safely throughout the year in all weather conditions. During National School Counseling Week, the Clark County School District (CCSD) celebrates the work of school counselors and the important role they have in our school communities. As a man dedicated to his community, Mr. Booker spent many years as an educator in Missouri and Kansas before becoming a teacher. He taught at Madison Elementary School, now Wendell Williams Elementary School, until illness forced him to retire. He worked…

Students at Sunrise Mountain High School had the unique opportunity to meet with professional athletes, sports representatives and gaming representatives on and off the field for the EA Sports’ “Field the Future” event. Students sat in on a panel discussion covering “Empowerment, equity and growth for women in the world of football and gaming.” Following the panel, students had a chance to work with the athletes on the field.
