Diaz then began his medical career as a registered nurse and continued his education to receive his medical degree from the University of California, Irvine. The Clark County School District (CCSD) invites families to School Choice Fairs to explore the award-winning Magnet Programs the District offers.  The events provide families the opportunity to learn about CCSD’s 44 nationally-recognized Magnet Schools and other school choice options. Prospective students will be able to explore the range of programs offered, including aviation, computer science, and medical professions, as well as teaching and training. Clark County School District (CCSD) students at several schools will participate in the annual Giant Student Farmers Market with Green Our Planet on October 16, 2024, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Clark County Government Center, 500 South Grand Central Parkway.  Student “Farmprenuers” will sell freshly grown produce and handcrafted goods for purchase. All profits will benefit school garden programs. In partnership with Green Our Planet, several CCSD schools provide students with STEM garden and hydroponics programs.

Manuel J. Cortez, better known by family, friends, and associates throughout the Southern Nevada community as “Manny” was a man for whom the words “public service” had a deep resonance.  Mr. Cortez, originally from Las Cruces, New Mexico, moved to Las Vegas with his family in 1944, at the age of five. After graduating from Las Vegas High School and serving three years in the Army, he returned to Las Vegas to further his education at Nevada Southern University. Arturo B. Cambeiro was born on April 19, 1932, in Havana, Cuba. There, he received a bachelor’s degree in science and architecture before migrating to the U.S. at 29 years old. He came with his family, who did not have very much and did not speak the language.    After living in Miami and Los Angeles, Mr. Cambeiro arrived in Las Vegas where he became Nevada’s first licensed Hispanic architect. LAS VEGAS – More than half of Clark County School District (CCSD) schools improved performance during the 2023–2024 school year. 200 schools increased their index scores from 2023 to 2024 on the 2024 Nevada School Performance Framework (NSPF). Of those, 80 schools increased their Star Rating. The number of 5-star schools remained the same as the prior year, but the District saw an increase in the number of 4-star schools. LAS VEGAS – 76 Clark County School District (CCSD) high school students have been selected as 2025 National Merit Scholarship semifinalists through the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. National Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated from Sept. 15 – Oct. 15 each year. This is a time to highlight Hispanic heritage and culture and to recognize the contributions made by the Hispanic members of our community. Hispanic Americans have influenced and enriched our nation through history, culture and accomplishments.  Throughout the month, we will be highlighting CCSD Hispanic namesakes who have made significant contributions to our District.  Also, make sure to follow our Facebook, Instagram, and X accounts to see how schools are celebrating! 

The Clark County Division of Air Quality (DAQ) issued a smoke alert for today, September 11, 2024, due to wildfire smoke from multiple wildfires in California; therefore, the Clark County School District has canceled all non-essential outdoor activities for today. Outdoor activities including lunch, physical education classes, and recess, have been moved indoors. All conference athletic events will be rescheduled and attempts will be made to reschedule all other canceled athletic events.
