CCSD Improved Student Achievement Trend Continues
LAS VEGAS – More than half of Clark County School District (CCSD) schools improved performance during the 2023–2024 school year.
200 schools increased their index scores from 2023 to 2024 on the 2024 Nevada School Performance Framework (NSPF). Of those, 80 schools increased their Star Rating. The number of 5-star schools remained the same as the prior year, but the District saw an increase in the number of 4-star schools. The NSPF is the Nevada Department of Education’s (NDE) statewide accountability system.
“Seeing our students continue improving across the District is so encouraging,” said CCSD Board of School Trustees President Evelyn Garcia Morales. “These improved star ratings and index scores are the result of the hard work and commitment of the educators working in our schools across the District to provide students with the opportunity to succeed.”
James E. and A. Rae Smalley Elementary School earned a perfect score on the NSPF and has a 5-star rating.
Six schools jumped two stars from 2023 to 2024:
- Lee Antonello Elementary School – Improved to a 3-star rating
- Crestwood Elementary School – Improved to a 3-star rating
- Lomie G. Heard Elementary School – Improved to a 3-star rating
- W. Mack Lyon Middle School – Improved to a 5-star rating
- Jo Mackey Academy (Middle School) – Improved to a 5-star rating
- William and Mary Scherkenbach Elementary School – Improved to a 4-star rating
“Seeing the continuous improvement of our students is so rewarding and inspiring. I am so proud and grateful to serve alongside the amazing team of administrators, licensed professionals, and support professionals in the District,” said CCSD Interim Superintendent Dr. Brenda Larsen-Mitchell. “Our team works extremely hard to implement instructional systems and structures for the success of all students. We will see our students’ academic performance continue improving with additional effort and focus.”
Through the American Rescue Plan Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Act (ARP ESSER III), CCSD invested in curriculum and professional learning to support student success in the classroom. These investments included the purchase of Tier I instructional materials in English language arts, mathematics, and science across grade levels ensuring all students have access to instructional materials aligned to the intent of the learning standards.
The CCSD Data Dashboard is being updated with the latest star ratings, and the work is expected to be completed on September 16, 2024.
