CCSD Board of School Trustees meeting recap

LAS VEGAS – Agenda Item 1.03 – Oath of Office

Clark County School District (CCSD) Board of School Trustees Member Isaac Barron was sworn in at a ceremony at this evening’s board meeting.

As outlined in the Nevada Legislature’s Assembly Bill 175, Barron is one of the four appointed Trustees who will serve four-year terms as non-voting members representing the local municipalities that appointed them. North Las Vegas appointed Barron who is replacing Trustee Dane Watson.

Agenda Item 2.09 – Focus: 2024 Strategic Plan Update: Teacher Recruitment and Critical Labor Shortage

CCSD Board of School Trustees accepted a presentation on the Focus: 2024 Strategic Plan focused on teacher recruitment and utilization of the critical labor shortage designation. 

The presentation identified successes in recruitment and retention efforts including increased compensation, candidates completing Alternative Routes to Licensure or Paraprofessional Pathway Project programs and a 93% retention rate.

Agenda Item 2.14 – Focus: 2024 Strategic Plan Update: School Breakfast, Lunch, and Supper Participation Update

Trustees accepted a presentation on the Focus: 2024 Strategic Plan, which focused on school meal participation. The update discussed improving meal availability, quality, and perception to boost student participation.

The presentation identified achievements, including an increase in lunch participation during the 2023-24 school year and more than 40 million total meals served to students.

Agenda Item 3.01 – Focus: 2024 Strategic Plan Update: Student Discipline and Chronic Absenteeism

The Board received a presentation on the Focus: 2024 Strategic Plan, which focused on student discipline and chronic absenteeism. The update discussed analyzing student achievement, increasing wrap-around services, and implementing a District support system to promote student success. 

The presentation highlighted achievements addressing the root causes of chronic absenteeism, including more than 38,000 home visits during the 2023-24 school year and creating a revised Student Code of Conduct to prioritize restorative practices. Through the District’s efforts, the chronic absenteeism rate has decreased nine percentage points since the 2021-2022 school year.
