CCSD principal and schools recognized with national Magnet Schools awards

Two additional CCSD schools earn Magnet Schools of America awards

LAS VEGAS – The Clark County School District (CCSD) is proud to announce West Career and Technical Academy (CTA) Principal Amy Dockter-Rozar was honored with the national Principal of the Year award by Magnet Schools of America (MSA). Award-winning CCSD Magnet Schools Roger D. Gehring Academy of Science and Technology and Walter Bracken Elementary School also received top honors during the MSA’s National Conference in New York City. 

“We are proud to celebrate Principal Amy Dockter-Rozar, Gehring and Bracken elementary schools and their entire school communities, including the staff, students, and families,” CCSD Interim Superintendent Dr. Brenda Larsen-Mitchell said. “Our Magnet programs are some of the best in the nation. With WCTA, Gehring Academy of Science and Technology, and Bracken ES recognized this year, our families can be confident in the outstanding choice options CCSD offers, and we look forward to the continued growth and success of our Magnet programs.”

Principal Dockter-Rozar has served at West CTA for ten years. She is known for inviting a collaborative learning community between stakeholders, providing students with free summer enrichment opportunities and after-school test preparation. Through numerous efforts, student enrollments at West CTA in both Advanced Placement and dual enrollment have increased. 

“I am so humbled and proud to represent the Clark County School District, West CTA, and the entire Las Vegas community,” said West CTA Principal Dockter-Rozar. “No one does this alone! This recognition is the culmination of hard work on the part of teachers, admin, and support staff, in addition to the commitment of our amazing students. I would like to acknowledge those who mentored me!” 

Roger D. Gehring Academy of Science and Technology was also awarded MSA Elementary School of the Year and Walter Bracken Elementary School was presented with the MSA President’s Award. MSA created national awards for elementary and secondary Magnet Schools of Excellence. Both include cash awards of $2,500. The Presidents’ Award is MSA’s third highest honor and is bestowed on behalf of all MSA presidents, past and present.

Each year, MSA recognizes educators and schools across the country for their noteworthy contributions to their profession. 

MSA also recognized 35 CCSD schools during the 2023-2024 school year.
