Two CCSD schools, Richard C. Priest Elementary School and Advanced Technologies Academy, recently earned the highest achievement for a school counseling program.
The American School Counselor Association recognized each school as a Recognized American School Counselor Association Model Program (RAMP).
The big picture: CCSD Guidance and Counseling Director Monica Martin noted that the RAMP award is a national recognition and a five-year designation for schools with outstanding comprehensive counseling programs.
Why it matters: “Working as a school counseling team involves collaboration to support the academic, emotional, and social well-being of students,” said Leighanne Mainguy, a Priest Elementary School counselor.
Each counselor brings unique strengths that complement one another, allowing them to address students’ individual needs using varied approaches, Mainguy said.
“By regularly communicating and sharing insights, we develop comprehensive plans that provide holistic care, ensuring students receive the appropriate support in every area of their development,” Mainguy said.
Alejandro Magana, an Advanced Technologies Academy counselor, said they create a well-rounded, comprehensive school counseling program, including an annual administrative conference, student outcome goals, and documented interventions.
What they’re saying: “Our work is essential because it helps students overcome obstacles, build resilience, and develop the skills they need to face life’s challenges,“ Magana said.
- “In the end, our role as counselors is to offer the guidance and care that helps students navigate their journey toward success,” Magana said.
