Last Wednesday was School Crossing Guard Appreciation Day, and CCSD schools expressed their gratitude to all the caring, hardworking individuals who help keep our children safe as they walk or bike to school.
- At Josh Stevens Elementary School, for example, its student council made cards to show their thanks to the crossing guards who serve their community.
CCSD’s Safe Routes to School also renewed public awareness of traffic safety, highlighting steps taken by a school. Vail Pittman Elementary School, home of the Panthers, hosted a “Safely Leading with the Right Paw” event, celebrating new traffic safety installations around its campus.
- Eight additional speed bumps have been installed near the campus to assist with safe travel to and from school.
- The school also installed a “traffic garden” on the blacktop, uniquely created with crosswalks and speed limit signage.
