29 Sep Superintendent’s Mailbag – Free and reduced lunch policies

Each week, the Clark County School District (CCSD) responds to some of the emails it receives from district employees, parents or community members. This week, the district responds to a parent inquiry about free and reduced lunch policies.

A parent asks, “My son told me that beginning Oct. 1, he will not receive a free lunch anymore because the school does not have a completed application on file. I filled out an application last year and it was approved, so why will he no longer qualify as of Oct. 1?”

CCSD participates in the federal Free and Reduced Lunch (FRL) program. In order to qualify for the program, parents must complete an application every year. If you have not completed an application for the 2015-16 school year, the grace period from last year will expire Oct. 7. Application forms for the FRL program can be obtained at any school or they can be completed online at applyforlunch.com.
