Now you see it, now you don’t – the students at Jim Bridger Middle School have the unique opportunity to learn magic tricks at school.

From card tricks to sleight of hand, middle schoolers learn the basics of magic tricks and get to practice them.

The students also learn from some of the best magicians in the industry, including local Las Vegas performer Paul Draper.

The after-school club appeared out of thin air in February thanks to a teacher wanting to share his passion for magic. Each week, 12-15 students attend working to become masters of illusion.

The club provides an opportunity for students to work on magic skills as well as social skills.

For students like Taiza Avelar, the opportunity to try something new was very appealing.

“It’s always a mystery and you never know what’s behind it,” Avelar said. “I get to brag to my friends that I know how to do magic tricks.”

Seventh grader Ash Sanchez likes the sense of community the club brings.

“It gives like sort of a place to belong,” Sanchez said. “You can have this whole group of people that are all interested in the same thing.”
