09 May Star Graduate: Luis P. Garcia of Northwest Career and Technical Academy

Star Graduate Luis P. Garcia of Northwest Career and Technical Academy is an extremely motivated student who has the ultimate goal of becoming a production designer. His grades are competitive, and he is constantly striving to reach his full academic potential by improving his own abilities.

Luis is very active in school and is always offering a helping hand to anyone in need. He participated in junior varsity soccer, while maintaining perfect attendance during his sophomore and junior years. In his spare time, Luis enjoys being a manager for the Legacy High School varsity soccer team.

Additionally, he has interests in film-making, 3-D animation and photography. He has also shown the ability to work quite effectively, whether alone or in a group setting. Luis is respected by faculty members and conducts himself in an exemplary manner.

On a personal level, Luis had to overcome an aneurism/traumatic brain injury which affected his memory, speech and processing abilities, as well as his motor skills. Through sheer diligence, Luis has overcome these personal setbacks, and is now flourishing in all aspects of his academic and physical domains. This truly is a testament to his character and his initiative to overcome obstacles.

Luis is interested in furthering his educational opportunities by seeking a degree in entertainment technology/engineering at either the University of Nevada, Las Vegas or the College of Southern Nevada.
