Some say when meeting Kanani Castellano, they are struck immediately by her self-possession and vivacity. Whether serving her in the community, exploring new recipes in the kitchen, or immersing herself in Biology through the Student Interactions with Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (SISTEM) program at University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), she shows up with a joyful energy that is uplifting and infectious. She also exhibits that stick-to-it-ive-ness and drive that I believe will ultimately be the key to her success. She will not only be graduating with her College and Career Ready Diploma this Spring but also with an Associate degree from the College of Southern Nevada. Her teachers and peers have been delighted to see how she has grown and persevered through personal challenges. Kanani’s positivity shines through everything she does. Her ambitious outlook and thirst for knowledge drive her passion to make a significant contribution to the world around her.
