At 17 years old, Montgomery “Monty” Wayman has already faced many significant obstacles in his young life. Monty was raised in a single-parent home by his loving father. At 10 years old, Monty was diagnosed with kidney cancer, which required painful treatments, surgery, and attending school via Homebound Services. By middle school, Monty was back to in-person learning, but the COVID-19 pandemic forced him to start his freshman year of high school online during which time he required another surgery due to complications of cancer treatment.

Despite all of these challenges, Monty has defied the odds to achieve his dream of graduation. His hard work and dedication has paid off as he is now a candidate for both the College and Career-Ready Diploma and the Millennium Scholarship, as well as many other academic accolades. These achievements stand as a testament to his unwavering commitment to his education and future.

Monty will be attending the University of Alaska Fairbanks in the fall where he plans to pursue his academic passion in linguistics and continue his remarkable journey of triumph over adversity. His story serves as an inspiration to all who face challenges, demonstrating that with resilience and determination, anything is possible.
