Mateo Flores is an exemplary student. He has earned recognition as an Advanced Placement (AP) Scholar with Distinction and has been honored as the Science Department’s Student of the Quarter. Mateo is an International Baccalaureate (IB) Certificate Candidate, taking on a rigorous course load of both IB and AP courses, many of which he completed online in addition to his eight courses on campus. Mateo was the recipient of not only one but two military academy appointments and will be attending the United States Naval Academy upon graduation.

In addition to his academic success, Mateo is a natural leader. He has held several leadership positions, including Platoon Sergeant in the Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (MCJROTC), IB Council President, and National Honor Society Treasurer. Mateo’s involvement in Kenpo Karate as a junior instructor and counselor further demonstrates his commitment to personal development and mentoring others. He holds a 5th-degree brown belt in Kenpo and has contributed over 200 hours as a counselor during summer camps.

Most notably, Mateo’s character stands out. He is a thoughtful, respectful, and driven young man who consistently strives to improve himself and his community. He embodies the values of integrity, teamwork, and perseverance in all that he does, whether in the classroom, on the field, or as a leader in his various organizations.
