17 Oct Six CCSD schools named “Shining Stars” by Nevada Dept. of Education

Six CCSD schools are among 10 Nevada schools to be named to the Nevada Department of Education’s inaugural Shining Stars List. Superintendent of Public Instruction Steve Canavero said, “Being included on the Shining Stars list recognizes and celebrates achievement at schools that have significantly outperformed the State in serving all students, with an emphasis on closing opportunity gaps.” Schools recognized for being Shining Stars were either four- or five-star schools according to the Nevada School Performance Framework, serve a high percentage of students in poverty, and significantly outperformed the State average (top 10 percent) on the Smarter Balanced assessment, administered last spring. Nevada’s 2016 Shining Star Schools are:

1. Ferron Elementary (Clark County)
2. Cahlan Elementary School (Clark County)
3. Roundy Elementary School (Clark County)
4. Southeast Career & Technical Academy (Clark County)
5. Veterans Tribute Career & Technical Academy (Clark County)
6. East Career & Technical Academy HS (Clark County)
7. Dyer Elementary School (Esmerelda County)
8. Imlay Elementary School (Pershing County)
9. Anderson Elementary School (Washoe County)

CCSD’s Vegas Verdes Elementary School will also be recognized for making significant improvements as its students were in the top 25 percent on Smarter Balanced performance and serve a high percentage of high poverty students.
