Gordon McCaw STEAM Academy and Walter Bracken STEAM Academy elementary schools were named by the National Association of Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) as 2023 National ESEA Distinguished Schools.

Both schools were recognized by the ESEA State Program Administrators (NAESPA) for exceptional student achievement. The award is determined by three categories:

  • Category 1: Exceptional student performance, as determined by each state.
  • Category 2: Closing the achievement gap between student groups, as determined by each state.
  • Category 3: Excellence in serving special populations of students, as determined by each state.

McCaw Elementary School was recognized as a Category 3 and Bracken Elementary School was recognized as a Category 1 school nationally for their hard work and dedication to school improvement. Both are two out of nearly 100 schools recognized nationwide. The schools will be honored for this award during the hybrid National ESEA Conference, February 7-10, 2024, in Portland, OR.
