03 May Trustee All-Star Teacher

Seven outstanding educators, selected by members of the Board of Trustees, are being honored as “All-Star Teachers” who “hit it out of the park” in terms of their teaching skills. Each of the seven teachers will be highlighted on CCSD.net this week — during Teacher Appreciation Week — and will receive free tickets to Las Vegas 51s games, plus 50 full-color specially-designed “baseball cards” that they can hand out to their students, families and friends.

Congratulations to All-Star Teacher Karen Thompson, nominated by Trustee Deanna L. Wright.

Karen Thompson teaches World Geography at Miller Middle School. A native of La Puente, California, she has been with CCSD for 28 years. Her hobbies include reading and watching classic films. Karen’s colleagues say she is deeply committed to the success of all her students. Principal Nicole Lehman-Donadio said, “Mrs. Thompson continually plans engaging lessons and is acutely aware of the need to scaffold learning for all students, which she does effectively. She artfully asks questions to prompt student reflection and encourage students to think, form opinions, and participate in productive discourse. Mrs. Thompson serves as a role model to her peers and facilitates Casual for a Cause at Miller Middle School monthly, allowing our faculty and staff to routinely give back to the community. She also dedicates much personal time to the Color Guard Team that she created in conjunction with Coronado High School. We are thrilled to have Mrs. Thompson as part of the Miller family.”
