The K.O. Knudson Academy of the Arts is celebrating a monumental achievement: Mariachi Los Pumas, an award-winning Mariachi group, has been crowned the Middle School Mariachi Group National Champion at the 30th Annual Mariachi Extravaganza in San Antonio, Texas.  

The Mariachi Extravaganza, recognized as the premier Mariachi festival in the United States, brings together the finest young Mariachi musicians in the country. Competing at the iconic Lila Cockrell Theater in downtown San Antonio, Mariachi Los Pumas showcased extraordinary skill and artistry, earning additional awards for the Best Armonía Section and Best Violins Section.  

Directed by Mr. Johnny Gonzalez, Ms. Yasmin Dueñes, and Sectional Directors Mr. Hector Aguilar and Mrs. Rocio Gonzalez, Mariachi Los Pumas de K.O. Knudson exemplifies the excellence that CCSD Magnet Schools strive to achieve. Their success at this national competition highlights the transformative impact of arts education in shaping confident, talented, and culturally grounded students.  

We are incredibly proud of Mariachi Los Pumas de K.O. Knudson for their hard work and dedication. Their achievement is a testament to the high standards of CCSD Magnet Schools and the enduring legacy of Mariachi music in our community.
