System enhances security measures
LAS VEGAS – The Clark County School District (CCSD) continues to enhance security for the 2024–2025 school year with an enhanced Weapons Detection System for large-scale athletic events at high schools and random school arrival screenings at middle schools and high schools.
Metal detectors have been utilized at large-scale athletic events for many years. The enhanced Weapons Detection System replaces metal detectors previously used at large-scale athletic events. The enhanced Weapons Detection System facilitates faster screenings compared to standard metal detectors.
“CCSD continues to enhance school safety by incorporating innovative technologies for the protection of our students and staff,” CCSD Interim Superintendent Dr. Brenda Larsen-Mitchell said. “The Weapons Detection System allows for consistent and efficient security screening.”
Additionally, when the Weapon Screening Program resumes for the upcoming school year, the enhanced Weapons Detection Systems will be incorporated into random arrival screenings at middle schools and high schools. The Weapons Detection System screens students faster to ensure that all students can take part in the process with minimal impact to the start of the school day. The Weapon Screening Program was first introduced in the 2018–2019 school year where different middle schools and high schools are randomly chosen for screenings on a rotating basis.
The District’s commitment to school safety is unwavering. We continuously seek ways to improve through the adoption of new technologies and appropriate training for our staff, ensuring a safe and secure learning environment for all.
