The National Association of Elementary and Secondary Education Act State Program Administrators (NAESPA) has designated Walter Bracken and Gordon McCaw elementary schools as 2023 National ESEA Distinguished Schools.

Why it matters: The two schools were recognized by NAESPA for exceptional student achievement.

To be eligible for selection, schools must have a poverty rate of at least 35 percent, demonstrate high academic achievement, and met or exceeded state-established accountability criteria.

  • Bracken Elementary School was acknowledged for exceptional student performance and academic growth.
  • McCaw Elementary School was commended for excellence in serving special populations of students (defined by NAESPA as homeless, migrant, and/or English learners, for example).

Both CCSD schools are two out of nearly 100 nationwide recognized for their hard work and dedication.

What’s next: The schools will be honored for their performance during the National ESEA Conference in February.
