Educator and best-selling author visits CCSD middle school

Noted educator, author and entrepreneur Dr. Angela Duckworth visited Bob Miller Middle School on Feb. 14 to meet with Superintendent Dr. Jesus F. Jara, during a schoolwide assembly that announced the establishment of a Character Lab at the school.

Duckworth, a Distinguished Professor of Psychology at the University of Pennsylvania, is well known in the education world as an innovative educator. She is best known for her New York Times #1 best seller – Grit: The power of Passion and Perseverance.

In addition to serving as a math and science teacher in the public schools of New York City, San Francisco and Philadelphia, she is the founder of a non-profit Character Lab organization at the University of Pennsylvania and she has served as an advisor to the White House, the World Bank, sports team and Fortune 500 executives.

By visiting CCSD and sharing her insights and knowledge, Dr. Jara hopes this will help to continue the efforts to make the Clark County School District the most improved district in the nation.

“I look forward to partnering with the Character Lab to help more students develop character strengths like grit, curiosity, humility and empathy,” said Jara.
