CCSD’s New Chief Academic Officer Appointment Announced

Clark County School District (CCSD) Superintendent Dr. Jesus F. Jara announced today the appointment of long-time educator and current CCSD Region 3 Superintendent Dr. Karla Loria as the Chief Academic Officer after a search process.

 Dr. Loria, a native of Costa Rica, spent her first year at CCSD leading educators in the Southeast portion of the District. Prior to joining CCSD, Dr. Loria focused her educational career on improving academic achievement across the country. She previously served as the Elementary Chief School Officer at the Houston Independent School District, the seventh-largest school district in the nation. Dr. Loria has also worked in Colorado, California and North Carolina.

“I am pleased to appoint Dr. Karla Loria to continue to serve as part of our Cabinet in CCSD as we move to accelerate the implementation of a coherent curriculum to meet the needs of all our students,” said Superintendent Dr. Jesus F. Jara. “Dr. Loria has proven throughout her career that she has the skills and knowledge to improve student achievement.”

Dr. Loria is moving into the role previously held by Dr. Brenda Larsen-Mitchell who was recently announced as the incoming Deputy Superintendent of Schools.

The Region 3 superintendent position will be announced in the near future.
