CCSD Board of School Trustees meeting recap, Sept. 24

LAS VEGAS – Agenda Item 5.03 – COVID-19 and the Clark County School District’s Response 

The Clark County School District (CCSD) Board of School Trustees were presented with their first 30 day update on health data in Clark County and the District’s response to distance education.

Dr. Fermin Leguen, acting district health officer of the Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD), provided the Board with the following information and recommendations based on the state’s current COVID-19 data.

  • The overall positivity rate for COVID-19 cases continues to decline.

  • There continues to be a high risk still present in regards to the reopening of schools.

  • It is the recommendation of the SNHD that the Clark County School District continues to constantly monitor the positivity rate in coordination with the SNHD.

Following the update on health data, the Board heard from District leadership regarding updates on connectivity and instruction during distance education. The information presented about connectivity included the following:

  • As of September 15, 2020: 226,093 Devices Issued to Students.

  • 13,443 Students Provided Internet Connectivity Through the Family Support Center.

  • The District is at 97% of projected enrollment.

  • 99% of enrolled students have been marked present at least once.

In terms of instruction, the Board update included information on wellness checks, supporting students with disabilities and English Language Learners, and MAP growth assessments.

5.04 Employment Agreement – Chief Negotiator and Assistant General Counsel

The Board of School Trustees voted unanimously to approve the contract of Fikisha Miller as chief negotiator and assistant general counsel.
