Agenda Item 5.01 – Budget Update

The Clark County School District (CCSD) Board of School Trustees received a budget update from Chief Financial Officer Jason Goudie. The presentation provided information on the ending fund balance for the 2021 amended final budget. Trustees were also provided with information regarding areas of uncertainty for 2021 including fiscal impacts of COVID-19, state K-12 funding reductions and enrollment for the 2021-22 school year.

Agenda Item 5.04 – Legislative Updates 

Trustees received an update regarding the 2021 Legislative Session and the 265 bills CCSD Government Relations is currently tracking. The Board was provided with information on the movement of several bills including, Senate Bill 173, which provides summer school funding, and Assembly Bill 194, which revises the suspension and expulsion appeals process.

Agenda Item 5.05 – Resolution in Opposition of Appointed School Boards

Trustees approved a resolution opposing proposed changes to the method by which Trustees are chosen to represent the citizens of Clark County. The resolution was prepared in response to legislative proposals that seek to have other governmental entities appoint some of the Trustees. The resolution states, “the Board of School Trustees of the Clark County School District believes that the citizens of Clark County should determine the qualifications of each Trustee, not another government entity.”
