Board receives budget and legislative updates

LAS VEGAS – 5.01 Budget Update

The Board of School Trustees received a budget presentation and update from Clark County School District (CCSD) Chief Financial Officer Jason Goudie. The presentation included information on District finances including the 2021 fund balance from the amended final budget. Additionally, Goudie presented an update on fiscal uncertainties that could affect CCSD, including the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, possible recession impacts and possible state of Nevada K-12 funding reductions.

Agenda Item 5.02 Legislative Updates

A legislative update was provided by members of CCSD’s Government Relations Department. Updates were provided on several bills that relate to education, including SB 2, Clark County School District’s bill on staff efficiencies. CCSD also presented its second bill draft, SB66, addressing internet connectivity, to the Senate Committee on Education.

Agenda Item 5.03 – 5.04  Memorandum of Agreement with Clark County Education Association and Education Support Employees Association. 

The Board of School Trustees approved by a vote of 6-0 with Trustee Lisa Guzmán abstaining, new memorandum of agreements with employee bargaining units. Agenda item 5.03 temporarily allows employees to perform work outside of their general job duties to minimize or eliminate any need for a reduction in force. Agenda item 5.04 temporarily allows Employees to perform work outside of their general job duties to minimize or eliminate any need for a reduction in force. Both of these agenda items modify previous agreements approved by the Board of Trustees on May 7, 2020.
