Agenda Item 5.01 – COVID-19 Update and the Clark County School District response

The Clark County School District (CCSD) Board of School Trustees received an update on the COVID-19 school closures and CCSD efforts to provide distance education and other resources to students.

The report highlighted CCSD’s guiding principles in providing distance education, which are to ensure the safety and wellbeing of students and educators, foster positive relationships and interactions and promote equity and accessibility to learning for all students. 

Trustees were presented with information on the number of students contacted by teachers. During the week of March 23 – March 29, 2020, 257,486 students were in contact with their teachers and 230,361 students were in contact the week of March 30 – April 5, 2020. The report also showed more than half a million meal bags have been served since school closures began, with each bag containing 2 meals.

Trustees were also provided with an update on the efforts to provide technology to students without access. The report shows 55,000 Chromebooks have been distributed to middle and high school students with elementary school distribution in progress.

Agenda Items 5.02-5.05 – Memoranda of Agreement with the Education Support Employees Association and the Clark County Education Association

CCSD Board of School Trustees approved Memoranda of Agreements with the Education Support Employees Association (ESEA) and Clark County Education Association (CCEA) that will provide licensed and support professionals the ability to donate sick leave to other employees in the District. 

CCSD is working in collaboration with all of our bargaining units to ensure the safety and well-being of every employee. 

“We have to work together in these uncertain times to address as many concerns for employees and students as possible,” CCSD Board of School Trustees President Lola Brooks said. “We are proud to work with ESEA and CCEA on the agreements to improve the work environment for employees.”

Agenda Item 5.06 & 5.07 – Memoranda of Agreement with Education Support Employees Association

The Board of School Trustees approved two Memoranda of Agreement with ESEA that will allow certain support professionals to receive pay of one and one-half times their regular pay.

“I would like to thank all our employees in essential positions who have made it possible for CCSD to provide our students with nearly one million meals during the current school closure,” said Superintendent Dr. Jesus F. Jara. “Our Food Service workers and custodians, are truly One Team with One Goal: Being #1 For Kids.” 

Support professionals who will be provided with the additional compensation are Food Service professionals and custodians at food service distribution sites on CCSD campuses who are unable to perform their duties working from home and interact with the public.
