LAS VEGAS – Agenda Item 3.01 – Focus: 2024 Strategic Plan Update — Chronic Absenteeism

The Clark County School District (CCSD) Board of School Trustees received a presentation with an update on the Focus:2024 Strategic Plan regarding chronic absenteeism.

The presentation highlighted efforts to restructure the Attendance Department and deploy attendance officers to provide mentorship to students who display early indicators of chronic absenteeism. The Board was also informed the District continues to work with other municipal agencies to return rates to pre-pandemic levels. 

Agenda Item 3.02 – Focus: 2024 Strategic Plan Update — Student Discipline.

Trustees discussed a presentation on Focus: 2024 Strategic Plan efforts related to student discipline. 

The presentation highlighted efforts to provide equitable applications of resolutions with offenses and the need to provide differentiated support and accountability based on school data and context. The discussion also focused on the need to increase partnerships to expand mental health wraparound services, social workers, school safety personnel, behavioral interventionists, and counselors in schools.

Plans were also outlined for continued professional development for school administrators and ongoing student town hall meetings.

Agenda Item 4.01 – Naming of District Facilities.

The Board approved the recommendation of the School Name Committee that the new career and technical academy be named Northeast Career and Technical Academy.

The new school scheduled to open in August 2023 in North Las Vegas, will offer ten career and technical education pathways: architectural design, automotive/diesel technology, business administration, computer science, construction technology, cybersecurity, energy technologies, medical professions, human and social services, and teaching and training.
