LAS VEGAS – Agenda Item 3.01 – Focus: 2024 Strategic Plan Update on Student Discipline

The Clark County School District (CCSD) Board of School Trustees accepted a presentation update on the Focus: 2024 Strategic Plan focused on student discipline. The report noted that third-quarter student suspensions continued downward for a second consecutive school year, with more than 2,000 fewer suspensions during the 2024-2025 school year compared to the 2023-2024 school year.

The report also highlighted successes, including school administrators implementing nearly 28,000 restorative resolutions on school campuses, a decrease in suspensions at middle schools included in the Tiered School Support Framework, as well as the District’s efforts to reduce exclusionary practices and increase student engagement on campuses.

Agenda Item 4.06 – 2025 Legislative Session Overview

Trustees accepted a report on the 2025 Legislative Session focusing on legislation impacting education across the state.

The Board was provided with information on its two bill draft requests. Assembly Bill 48 (AB48) was passed and signed by Governor Lombardo. AB 48 provides additional tools for educators when addressing bullying allegations. Assembly Bill 47, which was related to recruitment, retention, and professional development, did not pass; however, language from the bill was included in Assembly Bill 584.

Additionally, the report outlined provisions in several key education bills that passed, including Senate Bill 460, which creates a new accountability system for school districts across Nevada, and Assembly Bill 533, which provides for open enrollment if space is available, similar to the District’s Change of School Assignment (COSA) policy.
