The Clark County School District (CCSD) Board of School Trustees approved 5 to 2, the conditional resignation of Superintendent Dr. Jesus F. Jara effective Friday, February 23, 2024, at 5 p.m.

The resignation includes a single payment of $250,000, equivalent to six months pay.

Agenda Item 3.02 – Appointment of Interim Superintendent

The Board voted 5 to 2 to appoint Deputy Superintendent Dr. Brenda Larsen-Mitchell as the Interim Superintendent, effective February 23, 2024, at 5 p.m. The interim appointment remains in effect until the Board appoints a Superintendent.

Statement from Interim Superintendent Dr. Brenda Larsen-Mitchell:

“Madame President and Members of the Board, thank you for your faith and confidence in me to care for and educate the 300,000 students of the Clark County School District as your Interim Superintendent. I express my genuine gratitude to the 42,000 employees of the Clark County School District who show up every day to provide for our students. As I have throughout my career as an educator, I will continue to model passion and enthusiasm for education. I promise to continue to lead each day with the relentless sense of urgency that our students deserve. I look forward to continuing the work. Thank you.”
